I took these photos in winter on Hornøya Island near Vardø, where snow, strong winds, and the wild Arctic coast set the scene. Shags crowded the rocky cliffs, their dark shapes clear against the snowy rocks, while kittiwakes flew through the cold air above the sea. Seeing the birds shelter, rest, and take off in such tough conditions reminded me how resilient they are. These images show quiet moments of life carrying on at the edge of winter.
